Amanda is a sweet young woman, a teacher, dismayed by neglect of children. What a shock to find herself in an odd world - bare as can be.Va’rik’at’char (Va’rik), in a new form, and stripped, is lacking control and memories. I adore these two! When they meet, Amanda is shy, Va’rik is not. There is an intriguing conversation between the two concerning the types (and possible placement) of kisses. Deliciously humorous, it soon becomes a way to flirt!Amanda has issues to work out before relationships can go very far, though. So many things change on their trek to their destination. I was thrilled with the outcome of their story, and the finale of the series. I’m sure you’ll appreciate all the surprises along the way as I did. Well written, heartwarming, and highly enjoyable. You won’t want to miss it! Read with KU subscription.I really liked this book and this series as a whole. They are all pretty short, but each couple feels different and each one has a pretty good plot about how the couple gets from one point to another as they fall in love. I especially liked how each couple had a little animal companion with them for the journey. I also enjoyed the extended additional epilogues to the story, and the final scenes were very nice.The MMC, Va’rik, in this book is one of the scientists who, in all the books, have designed and are running experiments to find a solution for their dying race. It’s a sci-fi romance, so you can’t pay too much attention to the question of whether we should be condoning aliens plucking human beings from earth to help them save their own race. The FMC, Amanda, is a school teacher who is hoping to foster one of her students, Billy, who is living in an unsuitable foster home, but he cannot live with her until she is certified. When she gets kidnapped by the alien scientists, Billy is left behind, so the conflict between the lead characters is that she falls in love with him but cannot abandon Billy.One thing I like about this series is that it is about sweetness and sexy times, with the MMC being very protective and possessive, but also treating the FMC with respect and as an equal. There are no spankings, humiliation, or punishments in this series, in fact, I don’t remember even a backdoor event. I was mildly surprised because this author has a pattern where the first book of a series is kind of “normal“ sex, but as her books progress the sex becomes rougher and the MMC more dominant. Which is fine if that’s what you’re looking for, but sometimes I just want to read some sweet sci-fi romance and not be shocked when one of the books turns up to be D/s.This book had a very bittersweet ending with epilogues that go pretty far out in time, and I thought the author did a great job at ending the series (although she has hinted she’s not done).I would recommend this to readers who want short, sweet, a little bit of danger, a few good sex scenes, and of course HEAs.
