Found this to be an interesting read. Not just one story, but several.Kelly just became a judge and goes all over Massachusetts to see other judges and hear how they handle cases. While she's home she meets Randall a man slightly older than her who is going through a divorce and they call in love.Randall ex is raising their daughter Tessa, but she has OCD and her obsessions Randall feels make her unfit to raise their daughter. There is only one thing, Tessa is Randalls daughter, but not biologically his exs. As Kelly and Randall become closer they find out that Kelly is Tessas biological mom.Very good read. Another of Thayer's outstanding works which I totally enjoyed. Custody problems are a standard part of the courts in our country today, so this is not unique. However, Thayer approaches the issue in a way that you would not expect. The female judge is no longer a surprise in our court rooms either, but this judge, Kelly, is really special. She is new at her job and has worked very hard to get to this point in her life. En route, she has given up many of the joys of life and certainly most of the ease that go with young adulthood in order to attain her dream. Along the journey, she made her own way--very few breaks. Just as she gets her appointment, she meets a man, Randall, with whom she CAN develop a relationship. Because their meeting is "blind," (they are each visiting the grave of someone whom they love) she does not reveal that she is a judge and he does not reveal his job. In fact, they do not even give their real names. Both have faced heartbreak and rather than set themselves up for more, they approach this relationship anonymously. This in itself is unique and, oh my, how it affects the plot. They do talk about their real personal situations and some of the problems. They know enough to realize that is could be real and to proceed with caution. He is divorced and in a custody battle with his ex-wife, Ann. The adorable child , Tessa, at the center of this battle spends time with him and his new girlfriend. The young judge is battling with the loss of her Mother; Randall is battling with the custody case and his desire to have his daughter in his life; the ex-wife is running for political office and very cognizant of her public reputation; and, the 12 year old Tessa does not know what to expect since her life is out of her hands. The resolution of this plot is OUTSTANDING and leaves the reader wanting MORE. You must read this book! You really must read this book.
